Podcast Shines Spotlight on Downtown Casper's Future with Brick & Bond’s Martin Axlund

by Nat Steinhoff

CASPER, Wyo. — With major changes underway in the heart of Casper, one conversation is helping shed light on the people behind the progress. A new episode of the Voices of Casper podcast, hosted by Nat Steinhoff, dives into what’s next for downtown living, featuring an in-depth interview with Martin Axlund of Brick & Bond.

Axlund, a familiar name in local development circles, is part of the team driving some of the city’s most talked-about revitalization projects. Chief among them is The Yellowstone, a new 104-unit apartment complex that’s breaking ground just blocks from David Street Station. Designed to introduce more market-rate housing into the city core, the development aims to reshape how Casper lives, works, and invests in its own future.

“The amount of needle that’s being moved downtown right now is incredibly meaningful,” Axlund says in the podcast. “It’s a chance for me to one day take my kids down there and say, ‘We had a hand in building this.’”

The episode doesn’t just touch on construction. It gets into the why behind the work—how long-term planning from as far back as 2007 laid the groundwork for what's happening now. That includes the city's Old Yellowstone District Plan and a push to attract residents who will support shops, restaurants, and other small businesses on foot.

Brick & Bond, the development firm Axlund represents, has been increasingly active in these types of transformational projects. Their work isn’t about short-term gains; it’s about creating infrastructure that supports a more walkable, vibrant, and livable Casper. As Axlund puts it, housing is just one piece of a resilient downtown—it's the people who live there and how they interact with the space that will define its future.

For Steinhoff, these conversations are part of a larger mission to bring local stories to the forefront. “These are the voices shaping Casper,” he says. “Whether it’s housing, parks, small business, or the arts, we’re trying to understand the vision behind the growth.”

The podcast, produced by Checked In Media, launched its premiere episode today and is available now on YouTube. Community members are encouraged to subscribe, watch, and weigh in.
